Have you reviewed your credit reports? Do you know what is in them that is causing your score to be so low?

Go to www.annualcreditreport.com and get all 3 credit reports for free. Review them for accuracy. Dispute any item that you believe to be incorrect.

Go to www.myfico.com and look in the Credit Education section to learn about credit and FICO credit scoring.

I would start out with a Bank of America or Wells Fargo secured Visa card. Both banks have great programs with low annual fees, low starting amounts ($300.00) and no junk fees. After 12 months of positive on time payments you will graduate to an unsecured status. Then you will probably be approved for other cards such as dept. store and gas cards.

Good Luck

If you've already tried one company and they've turned you down, chances are the rest will turn you down too. Don't keep get letting companies run your credit...you're just bringing down your credit score with multiple inquiries and no approvals. I suggest you go to Macy's Department store if there are any in your area. Apply for credit...they will approve you with a $100 credit limit. (Just make sure you take your debit card with you and have at least $1 on it...they are going to use your card for verification purposes only...to make sure you are who you say you are) Make on time payments for the first three to six months. They will increase your limit after your first three ontime payments. This will help increase your overall credit score, granted you are paying your other bills ontime. Then, reapply for a major credit card. My suggestions are Providian & Credit One Bank. You'll have a better chance of approval after this is done.

If you have no credit it is hard to establish credit with a credit card on your own. If you have poor credit because of existing accounts, the best thing you can do is not seek new lines of credit, but strengthen the credit you have by handling existing accounts well by paying aggressively on the balances you have and paying the accounts on time.

You can apply for a credit card with Providian or Orchard Bank if your credit is not very good and are trying to establish credit. If you are a student, you can also look at applying for a card with Capital One. There is a website called www.creditcard.com that lists a variety of credit cards and the type of credit the lender is looking for.

In reference to a previous response, Wachovia does not offer a partially or fully secured credit card at this time, but Bank of America does.
