I’m just your average college kid looking for a way to buy books and don’t want a million dollars in fees. My credit isn’t the best (less than a year since I opened my first credit account), and I’m looking to avoid Capital One as I hear they throw all sorts of fees at you after you open an account. Any advice?

Your best option is to apply for a college student card. I found some great ones listed at the site below. No company is going to throw fees at you unless you don’t pay them on time. Only fee you have to worry about is annual fee which is 0 in most student cards listed at the site below.
If you have $500 in a savings account, you can get a secured credit card. Do not go to credit union because most do not report to the bureaus in order to keep the cost down.
I can advise you a range of credit cards designed especially for college students. There are no cards issued by Capital One as you want. They as well offer no annual fee and rather low rates. Look through http://www.applyforbestcredit.com/Studen… to make the final choice.
I think a pre-paid credit card may be your best bet. But then that doesn’t help, does it? I’m in the same boat you’re in. If you find a good one, please let me know!
Capital one does not throw a bunch of fees at you. Look at their student platinum.
